There was a lot of energy being used at Discovery Time today.

Today is the final Discovery Time for term 3.The focus is Survival - how can we use what we find to survive?

Ishan and Meki are trying to finsh  their ring.

Ms.Lianne is teaching how to tune a guitar.

Some people are building tents they had to solve a problen to stop them blowing away, so they attatched
them to the fence.

There is a challenge to finish the sculpture today so people are working to finish it so it can be displayed next term. Ms Bevan is making a windmill to add to  the sculpture.

Liam and Imogen from A3 help Ms Bevan and Emily create  a cone tower.

Nick  and Caleb have  made paper planes in M9.

                                                             Why do we do discovery?
Because it is a fun way to learn new things.
                                                             Thinking like scientists-what do they do?
They make one machine for years and years until they find the answer.
                                                              Going further-perservering?
You can go further by trying and trying over and over again.
                                                               Co-operating
You can co-operate when you take turns, by being patient and sharing equipment.
                                                                Creating new things
 You can create new things when you use your imagination.
                                                                        Fun
You can have fun when you are with a partner making something new.

The Middle Syndicate gardening group met with Emily of the senior school to learn about what they grew in their garden because we wanted to replant our garden.

We wanted to grow veges that we could eat.

 

               Another activity was discovering what can be created with cardboard boxes.

 Whats inside ? This activity is always popular. What has this boy got himself into?

Meki and Kere are using the hula hoops, they are challenging each other. Meki won 2 or 3 times and Kere won twice. Meki had a smaller hula hoop. Kere had a bigger one.

Discovery 2012 has commenced with three sessions so far.
We have enjoyed fine weather and  lots of interest from the children.
